Welcome to the new Academic Year 2018-2019! To our old students, welcome back! To our new students and the college freshmen who just graduated from the new senior high school program, welcome to the University of Southern Philippines Foundation!
Looking back, the past Academic Year 2017-2018 had been very challenging to all of us. In the early part of the First Semester the University went through a change of administration in the installation of the new university president. Toward the end of the First Semester, the preparation of our intent to apply to CHED’s Institutional Sustainability Assessment (ISA) was commenced by complying with the requirements prescribed by the Self-Evaluation Document (SED) provided by CHED Regional Office No. 7 which we hope can be submitted to CHED national office in the earlier part of this new academic year. Before the Second Semester ended, the college course offerings underwent an assessment and monitoring by the CHED Regional Office 7 to strengthen compliance with the prescribed minimum requirements.
We saw the professionalization of our graduates after they successfully hurdled the board and bar examinations given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Supreme Court. We extend our warm felicitations to 27 (May 2017) and 20 (November 2017) new Certified Public Accountants, 31 (September 2017) and 81 (March 2018) new Registered Pharmacists, 5 (June 2017) and 17 (November 2017) new Registered Nurses, 15 new Licensed Elementary teachers, 17 new Licensed Secondary Teachers, 70 new Registered Social Workers, 6 new lawyers, 6 new Civil Engineers, one new Mechanical Engineer, 2 new Architects, and 5 new Geodetic Engineers. For having passed these difficult professional examinations, we thank them for the great honor they have brought to their Alma Mater. Their future is secured. We wish all the new board and bar passers as well as all the graduates success and a brighter future. Indeed, they have built the foundations of their future and realized their dreams while at USPF.
The Jose Rizal Museum, the University’s cultural treasure, had been transferred from Lahug Main Campus to the Mabini Campus. Phase one of the new Jose Rizal Museum has just been inaugurated on May 25, 2018 on time for the annual celebration of the Cebu’s GABII SA KABILIN featuring 27 museums and cultural heritage sites in Metro Cebu.
We also look forward to a brighter new academic year.
We start the new academic year with newly revised course offerings in all colleges pursuant to relevant CHED memorandum orders as a result of the K to 12 program, and an improved study program for graduate courses.
By July, the new Engineering Machine Shop will be completed and operational, with better machineries and tools replacing the old ones. The Engineering laboratories are renovated to provide two more laboratories, this time for electrical engineering. New equipment are acquired for engineering courses to keep abreast with new technological developments. Generally, facilities are improved and the school buildings for elementary and junior high school are repainted ready for the opening of the new academic year using mainly the university color to enhance a lighter ambiance while coolly contrasting with the surrounding greenery that stimulates intellectual capability of the human brain.
In the coming months we will witness the start of more efforts to propel further USPF’s positive image as a research university, to advance her presence in the community and educational circle, and to establish more linkages in attracting other educational institutions from abroad, companies and philanthropic entities to partner with USPF in her endeavour toward achieving academic excellence and to bring quality education to her students.
By October 2018, the construction of the new building in the Lahug Main Campus will be completed and ready for use at the start of the second semester on November 2018. The new building will house on its 4th floor six science laboratories. There will be 24 classrooms mainly on the 2nd and 3rd floors. There will be on the 2nd floor an additional conference room and a new Learning Commons which will be an innovative addition to the existing libraries. The ground floor provides 2 more classrooms, 2 offices and a much bigger modern canteen which will use the “clean as you go” system to strengthen customers’ positive habit of cleanliness and respect for others.
We look forward to more success from our students in their cultural, athletic and other extra-curricular endeavours. We expect more numbers of graduates to successfully hurdle the board and bar examinations.
To all our students, thank you for enrolling at USPF where we “pursue excellence for total human development” of our students.
We wish you all the best as we begin another academic year in our journey toward realizing your dreams at USPF.
