The USPF College of Nursing produces nurse practitioners and health care leaders who are globally competent, innovative, caring and compassionate. The Level 1 PACUCOA accredited college has consistently performed well above the national passing percentage in the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination.

DEPARTMENT OF NURSING

The USPF College of Nursing opened in 2003, with the aim of producing 21st century nurse practitioners and health care leaders who are globally competent, innovative, caring, and compassionate. With the partnership of Cebu’s leading public and private hospitals, the college has remained true to its promise of producing globally competitive nurses equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to deal with the challenges in the real world. With the new outcomes-based curriculum, the program prepares the nursing students to perform and provide safe and quality holistic care to individuals, families, and communities utilizing the current and relevant nursing trends and evidenced-based practices. The College of Nursing sufficiently provides the students with the foundation they need to succeed in the real world.

Educational Objectives

    • 1. To provide quality nursing education through effective implementation of an outcomes-based, value-laded BSN curriculum responsive to the changing needs of local and international communities.
    • 2. To produce quality and relevant nursing research to enhance evidence-based practices.
    • 3. To cultivate a culture of services and social responsibility through community health programs.

Program Description

    • Degree Name. The degree shall be Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). To ensure the quality of the nursing graduate, the degree is conferred upon completion of at least four-year BSN program offered by a college, professional institution, or University duly recognized by the Commission on Higher Education.
    • Nature of the Field Study. The BSN is a four-year program consisting of general education and professional courses. Professional courses are threaded through from the first year thru the fourth year with emphasis on the nursing concepts with corresponding Related Learning Experience (RLE). The BSN program provides an intensive nursing practicum that will refine further the nursing competencies to ensure achievement of the BSN program outcomes required of an entry level nurse.
    • Program Goals. The BSN Program aims to develop a professional nurse who is able to assume entry level positions in health facilities or community setting. The professional nurse is capable of providing safe, humane, quality and holistic care to individuals in varying age, gender and health-illness status; healthy or at risk families; population groups and community; singly or in collaboration with other health care providers to promote health, prevent illness, restore health, alleviate suffering and provide end of life care.
    • Specific Roles and Careers for Graduates. The National Nursing Core Competencies Standards of 2012 includes the three (3) major roles of the professional nurse. As a nurse generalist, they can assume the following roles on;
        • 1. Client Care. Utilize the nursing process in the care of mothers, newborns, children, adolescents, adults, and older persons; family, community, population groups, and persons with special needs.
        • 2. Leadership and Management. Serve as Managers and leaders of Nursing service and health services and programs.
        • 3. Research. Engage in nursing and health-related research; Evaluate research studies; Apply research process in improving client care.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

After the completion of the BSN program, the graduates are expected to demonstrate the following;
    • 1. Analytical and critical thinking skills in nursing practice.
    • 2. Competence in the following key areas of responsibility in the practice of his/her profession whether in the hospital or community settings in both local and international:

    • 4. Possess the attributes of a USPian graduate who is ethical and humane, globally competent, socially responsive, culturally sensitive, effective communicator, critical thinker, team player, creative and innovative and lifelong learner.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

At the end of the nursing program, the learners will be able to;
    • 1. Apply knowledge of physical, social, natural, sciences and health sciences and humanities in the practice of nursing.
    • 2. Perform safe, appropriate, and holistic care to individuals, families, population, group and community utilizing nursing process.
    • 3. Apply guidelines and principles of EBP in the delivery of care.
    • 4. Practice nursing in accordance with laws, legal, ethical and moral principles.
    • 5. Communicate effectively in speaking, writing and presenting using culturally – appropriate language.
    • 6. Report/document client care accurately and comprehensively.
    • 7. Collaborate effectively with inter-, intra-, and multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
    • 8. Practice beginning management and leadership skills using systems approach in the delivery of client care.
    • 9. Conduct research with an experienced researcher.
    • 10. Engage in Lifelong learning with passion to keep current with national and global developments in general, and nursing and health developments in particular
    • 11. Demonstrate responsible citizenship and pride in being a Filipino.
    • 12. Apply techno-intelligent care systems and processes in health care delivery system.
    • 13. Uphold the USPF and nursing core values in the practice of the profession.
    • 14. Apply entrepreneurial skills in the delivery of nursing care.
